Today’s weight: Skipping the scale after Emily and Paul’s annual Lobster Fest last night, where I competed in a gold medal round of lobster, lobster, lobster, Cosmopolitans, coconut cake, and chocolate peanut butter squares. Ken woke up properly chastened by his eating exploits. I’m STARVING! On the plus side, the drinks were tiny and not strong, and I switched over early to bottles of water, so I’ll pat myself on the back over that one.
Today I am grateful for: 1) Waking in the night to find Bodhi the Swiffer cat pressed up against my leg; he’s the sweetest. 2) Finding an awesome, sexy, super-soft nightie at Marshall’s for $19.99! I feel bootiful in it. 3) Lazy weekends with the kids; the time together is so very precious to me.
No gym today, so no gym monitor gleanings, but here’s some fun stuff:
* I agree with Buzzfeed: Matthew Mitcham is the most adorable Olympian ever. Mom, can I have him please?
* Oh shit: Last Friday was National Watermelon Day and I missed the chance to celebrate.
* Aw of the day: Not quite sure why I find this bulldog and tortoise sharing Cheerios so cheery, but I do.
Beauty where I least expected it
Last night Kirby and I hung out, swapping game play with the PS3. I would play Skyrim for a bit, he would play Grand Turismo, which for him is more about admiring the cars than racing. It’s okay, I can knit to the parade of obscure cars he inspects carefully. Then Kirby said he had a game he wanted to show me. He downloaded a demo of Journey and walked through to the point where you have to buy the game or quit. I was totally hooked. This game is so beautiful it made me cry, and the paradigm of the game is completely in line with the meditation challenge. This, from a video game?! Go. Figure.
Today I’m grateful for 1) My kid, home again and doing so well; 2) Unexpected beauty; 3) Hot weather. Finally it feels like summer.
