Beating the beer belly: Coors and calorie counting?

by betsy on April 20, 2012 · 10 comments

Today’s weight: 139.2, down 1.2 pounds from yesterday.  Could be result of ongoing intestinal bug, or because I’m still so jetlagged that all I was good for yesterday was tidying, tidying, tidying.  Whatever; I’ll take it.

Today I am grateful for:  1)  Ming, our cherry tree, in bloom.  2)  The baby maple we planted last year beginning to leaf. 3) That particularly tender springy shade of green enveloping all of White Plains–so lovely!

Today’s gym monitor gleanings:

*  Beating the beer belly:  Can you combine Coors and calorie counting? Signs point to yes.

*  Gnocchi anxiety:  Diners are apparently paralyzed with fear over hard-to-pronounce menu items. I’m delighted to know that there’s yet another topic we should be terrified of.

*  Oh jeez:  This woman may have died because she drank too much Coke.

*  How not to sell an Oreo:  Just…no.

* Not many more shopping days:  Before Mother’s Day/my birthday, so better order these bacon earrings before it’s too late!

*  Aw of the day:  Aw, wookit the otters!

xxoo,

Betsy

Potato Chip Friday

I did not weigh today, having caved tried one of Kirby’s potato chips last night. That, of course, led to a handful of them, and I don’t particularly need to see the salty bloat number to know I made a mistake. Today it’ll be green tea and lean protein.

Today I’m grateful for 1) Hearing that my college roommate is doing well. I love the internet. Email. What a concept! 2) Sunshine predicted this weekend. 3) Indoor plumbing.

I love that you named your cherry tree, Betsy. Maybe if I named our hydrangea bush, it would actually bloom.

Drumroll, please. Today’s weight: 165, down .6 pounds. This is my goal weight. Actually it is the goal weight I have settled on, because for the past 10 years, I haven’t been able to make it to 155, which was my approximate weight in my 20s. Still, 165 is a big victory for me.

I have reached this weight several times since I became a mom, only to immediately begin gaining the weight back again. You could tell the season by my weight and demeanor. Thin and elated – must be late spring. Fat and defeated – time for Halloween! Not. This. Time. I WILL keep it off, and I’m going trying to lose another 5 pounds or so. Because it seems possible.

BYT has made such a difference in my weight loss. I’ve never been so consistent in eating well and exercising. I hope it can help me keep the weight off, too. I suspect it will. You ladies rock!

Gratitude:
- My online business writing workshop went well. My learners were eager to participate and seemed to like it.
- Hot showers. Sometimes I take a moment to really appreciate the glory of hot water.
- Jeff going to the grocery store so I didn’t have to.

CONGRATULATIONS, DORY!!!! Hey, Janet, how come Dory didn’t get her glowy tiara next to her badges if she’s at her goal weight? But who cares about that; let’s all do the happy dance! Dory, we’re all just so proud of you!!!!

Embarrassing confession. I goofed. Ming is the name of our Chinese Dogwood. Happy (as in Happy Rockefeller) is the name of our cherry tree, because its predecessor was rejected by the Rockefeller estate for being too scrawny, so of course we had to adopt it.

You make me laugh! I didn’t enter my weight into the weight tracker yet. I want to be sure I keep it for a couple of days. Then I’ll have the tiara.

Thanks for the happy dance!!

Oh thank god. I’m so glad it wasn’t my fault that you don’t have the tiara!

HOORAY for Dory!! Congratulations – you have been awesome and consistent the whole time. You sound like me – my original goal was to see the 140s again and then when I got there, the whole eating healthy thing had gotten so easy (thanks to BYT) that I just kept on going. I can hardly wait to see that shiny tiara under your name

Big congratulations to you, Dory! I say – go ahead and get that tiara as you’re going to keep it.

Wow about the cookie/boob ad, but love the otter video.

Today: 132.4 – down 0.6. I’ll take it!

Gratitude:
- Again, warm weather. Love it!
- That I pretty much am already booked for fall with tutoring – yea, no marketing to find more students.
- Healthy family.

Dory April 20, 2012 at 11:32 AM

Yea to no marketing! I do freelance work and avoid marketing whenever I can. If you are booked, you must be GOOD!
